Q3 Unit 3: Research of the Human Lungs

The lung is the key organ in the respiratory system. It is a pair of spongy, air-filled organ in the chest (thorax). When someone inhales, air enters the trachea (windpipe) and goes to the lungs through tubular branches called bronchi. The trachea is supported and held open by 15-20 C-shaped pieces of cartilage, and there is smooth muscle in its wall that can alter its width. The bronchi branch out into many smaller bronchioles, which are muscular tubes that do not have cartilage. Bronchioles have a cluster of alveoli at the end, which are air sacs surrounded by capillaries. In between of the alveoli is a thin layer of cells known as interstitium. Gaseous exchange occur in the alveoli.

My Reflection:

Prior to this task, I have learnt about how the lungs function in my Biology class. Conducting research helps me to refresh my memory of the knowledge that I have learnt.
